Big Al strolled into a bar one day and saw a hot girl he dated a couple of times (whom we'll call Mandy for the sake of arguments) sitting with a rather "country-looking" white dude. Big Al decided to approach them and interview "Mandy" with his tape recorder to possibly have material for the show.

Big Al: Who was a more fun date? Me or Steve?
Mandy: Steve.
Big Al: Who is better looking? Me or Steve?
Mandy: Steve.
Big Al: Who is a better kisser? Me or Steve?
Mandy: Steve, Steve, Steve!

Fortunately, Steve didn't get too upset, and the three of them laughed about the awkward situation! They all finished their lunch, left the restaurant and headed to the boat show.

With that, A friendship was born. Big Al and Redneck Steve began hanging out, going to sporting events, bars, even trips to Mexico.

One day in Mexico, they wandered into "Sharky and Captain Ron's Beer Bucket" in Playa del Carmen. They asked Sharky if he knew anyone there that wanted to sell a bar. The old slick fart said: "I sure do: me!" Two hours and five tequila shots later, Big Al and Redneck Steve had agreed to buy a bar. Big Al and Redneck Steve's Beer Bucket, established May 23, 2008.

A year and a half later, they decided to open a second location - but this time, a little closer to home! They walked into the McKinney Avenue Tavern.

They talked to Ed (the owner), and two months later agreed that the MAT would become Big Al and Redneck Steve's Mckinney Avenue Tavern. Established December 15, 2009.

What's next for Big Al and Redneck Steve? I'm guessing a couple of cold beers!
